RULE 2.41(6): AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION EFFORTS, AND
IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT NARRATIVE ON THE
SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCH FAILURE.
Responses to this item are broken into several sections which deal
with each area in particular.
ACCESS ROAD (BELOW OFFICE): The growth along the road cuts continues
to develop, inspite of the steep slope and rather short growing season
resulting from the north-facing slope. Erosion is minimal and
age/diversity in the grasses continues to show a large range.
ACCESS ROAD (ABOVE OFFICE): The second year growth of this area is
very diverse in its quality and density. Being generally a steep
south-facing slope locked into a rather hot drainage basin, the growth
of the vegetation has been understandably weaker. However, what is
present is showing good promise for future development to some extent.
It is very doubtful that it will ever be as strong as the roadsides
below the office simply because the environment here is highly
unfavorable whereas the other environment is quite favorable.
ORIGINAL ACCESS ROAD: Spot seeding in early 1985 boosted the density
of the vegetation considerably. It appears that the growth will fully
stabilize the area.
ABANDONED ROAD: Spot seeding in early 1985 boosted the density of the
vegetation. It appears that the growth will adequately expand to
produce sufficient density to control erosion.
OFFICE SITE: The large area below the office which was originally a
stockpile area for Peter Riewit & Sons and became an outwash plain until
the sediment control system was installed, has developed an outstanding
growth of grasses and legumes. In the autumn of 1985 the area was
sampled for productivity. The results far exceeded our expectations.
The average productivity was on the order of 4,500 pounds per acre with
about 75Y of [hat composed of grass.
It has been proposed to the neighbors to the east that this area be
merged with their work on their land. Although no response has been
received, we suspect at some time in the future this will be done. If
it is, then eventually the light industry on their property could expand
onto this property to produce a much more consistent development area.
However, such development would probably not occur until the quarry was
nearing completion which will be a long time in the future.
TRACT WDT: The Tract WDT area was spot seeded in 1985 and the
resulting growth has produced a dense growth of grass and legume that
exhibits a good age-class differentiation as well as sufficient density
to control erosion.
TOPSOIL STOCKPILES: The stockpiles were successfully revegetated and
in our opinion are well protected against wind and water erosion.
Page 3 of 4 Permit 77-211 Pikeview Quarry 1986 Annual Report
