The data pages indicate 0 cfs when
flow was below the recording limit of the flume. For these
calculations the minimum recording level was used (01 - 0.56 cfs,
OZ - 0.26 cfs and 03 - 0.15 cfs). The < sign indicates months
where part or all of the readings were below the recording level.
Malfunctions of the recorders is shown as a dot on the data
• pages. For these calculations when more than half of the month
has information available the average of the before and after
reading is used for the missing data.
Powderhorn finally received a permit renewal of our CDPS permit
no. co-0027146. The primary change in the new permit is whole
effluent toxicity (wet) testing requirements for mine discharges,
outfalls 001, 002 and 004. Wet testing will be done quarterly
starting the first quarter of the 1993 hydrologic year.
There were no discharges from outfalls 005 thru 014 during this
year. These discharge points cover sediment ponds which control
disturbed area runoff. Reclamation of the North Decline during
the spring of 1992 required enlargement of Pond No. 7 and
involved installing two additional nondischarging sumps.
Discharge point 001 is used as an overflow to a mine water supply
system for the preparation plant. The source of the water is
primarily location 3 in the Roadside mine as discussed in the
Mine Water section of this report, but can include some water
from location 5. During the winter, the line is disconnected and
pumping to the preparation plant is closely monitored to avoid
overflow. A listing of data for the year is given on pages SD-5
and SD-6. Table 592-3 is a summary of results for the year and
Table S92-4 is a summary of results since 1979. Table 592-5
summarizes the average monthly flow. As noted the flow is not
