a. possible completion of two benches on Tract C;
b. regrading and seeding of the road area in Tract A-1.
Rule 2.41(4): No vegetation was planted in this last year,
nor was any planned to be planted. Some may be planted in a
few areas next year.
Rule 2.41(5): Because no vegetation was or has been planted
anywhere on the operation there was no need for fertilizer
or other soil amendments. Prior to seeding areas next year
the soils will be tested and amendments added as necessary.
Rule 2.41(6): Although no reclamation was actually accomplished
in this last year, what little bit of reclamation directed
work was done deserves some comments.
The benches on the upper part of Tract C encountered
some difficulties in rock fracture patterns. Standard
blasting techniques tended to leave a slight overhang on the
highwall and a bench that sloped out from the wall. A
different approach to blasting was used and it created a
more agreeable fracturing and produced a better configuration.
Some topsoil has successfully been salvaged from a
small area in the northern part of Tract C. Although not of
great quantity or especially excellent quality, its salvage
does provide some material for topdressing areas that appear
to be particularly difficult to reclaim. More of this soil
may be available in the future.
