In short, during the last year, there were few changes
in the operation which have any impact on the permit. In
large part, this lack of activity is due to the continuance
of a depressed aggregate market in the Colorado Springs
area.
RULE 2.41(2): LOCATIONS AND NUMBER OF ACRES RECLAIMED FOR
THAT YEAR.
No land was physically placed in reclamation this last
year. This was primarily due to the lack of any mining
which would complete mining certain parcels of land allowing
the opportunity for that land to be reclaimed.
In a sense, however, the continued removal of the dike
separating this operation from Castle Concrete's Sand Pit is
a form of reclamation. This is true because through the
removal of the dike the Sand Pit becomes a cove rather than
a hole. This provides the opportunity for completion of
reclamation of the Sand Pit and the production of more
useful land in this o eration on the west side of Academy
Boulevard. It is~the dike will be fully removed in the
next few years and that backfilling of the Sand Pit,
utilizing, in part, waste materials from this operation,
will continue for several years.
RULE 2.41(3): THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES IN THE
VARIOUS STAGES OF RECLAMATION (BACKFILLED, GRADED, TOPSOIL
REPLACED, REVEGETATED).
BACKFILLED: The backfilled acreage did not change
appreciably in the last year. All backfilled land remains
as it was reported in last year's annual report. The total
backfilled acreage is about 23 to 25 acres.
GRADED: Graded land would total about 10 acres,
depending upon exactly how one defines "graded". In this
report, graded land is considered to be land which has been
removed from mining status and has been backfilled and at
least partially brought to its final topographic
configuration.
TOPSOIL REPLACED: No topsoil has been replaced on any
areas as all areas where soil existed after the time of
permitting are still in a mining status. However, soil like
material has been placed on some graded areas west of
Academy. This is as it was reported last year.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1989/1990 PAGE 2 OF 4
