DANIELS SAND COMPANY
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
ANNUAL REPORT FOR PIT #2
FILE N0. M-73-7
REPORT PERIOD: JAN. 7, 1989 TO JAN. 6, 1990
ANNIVERSARY DATE: JANUARY 7, 1990
DATE OF DATA COLLECTION FOR REPORT: DECEMBER 1989
SUMMARY: The changes from last year were of little
significance. Only a small amount of sand was
removed east of Academy Boulevard in existing
disturbed areas. West of Academy the sand dike was
further removed and this supplied most of the
production for 1990. The aggregate market
continues severely depressed in Colorado Springs,
although there are a few signs of an increase in
demand if some major projects for the city are
started in the next year or two. No additional
reclamation was accomplished other than the
continued removal of the sand dike which
effectively is a reclamation action. It
drastically improves the physical structure of the
land and its eventual usefullness.
RULE 2.41(1): LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES AFFECTED DURING
THAT YEAR.
The number of acres affected in the last year did not
change more than a tiny amount from last year. In fact, no
previously undisturbed land was disturbed. Therefore the
acreages affected remained at essentially 40 acres east of
Academy Boulevard and 70 acres west of Academy Boulevard.
The sand extraction occurred to a small amount east of
Academy Boulevard and was contained within existing
disturbed areas. All areas where extraction occurred during
the last year east of Academy Boulevard are noted on
previous annual report maps.
West of Academy Boulevard there were no changes in the
operation structure as indicated on the permit maps and in
previous annual report maps. Much of the sand mined this
last year was obtained from the dike which formerly
separated this operation from Castle Concrete's Sand Pit
operation immediately to the north. It is estimated that
between 1/2 and 2/3 of the sand in this dike has been
removed. The rest of the sand should be removed in the next
few years which will totally connect the two operations.
FILE 73-7 ANNUAL REPORT - 1989/1990 PAGE 1 OF 4
