ACZ
Ms. Cathy Begej
Page Two
March 13, 1990
Comment lb. - The actual volume and size of the existing overburden
stockpile has been reduced as a result of overburden
removal and backfilling operations in the area. However,
the footprint delineated on the 1989 Reclamation Map is not
meant to represent the outline of the stockpile, but rather
the limit of disturbance in this area. Appropriate
boundary modification will be made upon completion of final
grading, topsoiling, and/or revegetation within the
existing overburden stockpile area.
If so desired by the Division, Kerr could delineate the
approximate toe of the overburden stockpile on its future
annual reclamation report maps. However, this delineation
would not reflect any significant change in status unless
final grading, retopsoiling or revegetation has been
completed.
Comment 2. Kerr is committed to backfilling, regrading, retopsoiling
and revegetating all areas at the 720 Pit. As evidenced
by Kerr's performance during the past several years, all
available resources have been allocated to these
activities. Unfortunately, due to poor market conditions,
Kerr's available resources have been rather limited.
Although substantial progress has been made on removal of
the existing overburden stockpile and the resulting
backfilling of the 720 Pit, no new postmining topography
has been achieved since 1985.
Kerr is committed to reclaiming all disturbed areas within
the Kerr Mine Area as contemporaneously as possible. Kerr
would like to commit to performing final grading,
topsoiling and revegetation on additional areas during
1990. However, very limited available resources may
dictate that Kerr could not live up to such a promise.
Consequently, Kerr will commit, as always, to devoting all
available resources towards achieving approximate original
contour, final grading, retopsoiling and revegetation as
soon as practicable. We feel that any commitment to
reclaim specific acreages in specific time frames would be
inappropriate.
