Table 3. Shrub densities for Herbivory Study Plot 95-1.

Species 1997 Density
per Plot- 1995 Density
per Plot 1997
Frequency % Survival*
Serviceberry 68 160 100% 43%
Chokecherry 113 160 100% 71%
Gambel's Oak 139 160 100% 87%
Totals 320 480 100% 67%
na=not applicable
*Survival based on original number of individual plants per transect.
Location: Planting Unit 95-1 was planted within a randomized grid system as part of an herbivory study at the site.
Herbaceous Cover: Grass = 0.0% coverage. Forb = 6.9% coverage. Forb cover consisted primazily of both perennial and annual
species, Canada Thistle (Cirsrum arvense) and Kochia (Kochia scoparia). Forb coverage represents a substantial increase over 1996
levels.
Comments: Survival rates declined from 73% in 1996 to 67% in 1997 with Serviceberry and Chokecherry experiencing the largest
declines. The area was heavily browsed by marmots, deer, and elk. Note that density numbers aze on a per plot rather than per acre
basis due to the sampling method utilized for the study.
