Table 4. Transects are placed perpendicular to the baseline at the 15, 30, and 45 meter mazks. Endpoints of the transects are
marked with wooden stakes.
Herbaceous Cover: Grass = 33 % coverage. Forb = 123 % coverage. Forb cover consisted primazily of both perennial and annual'
species, Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvense) and Kochia (Kochia scoparia). Forb coverage increased dramatically between.1996 and
1997.
Comments: Overall survival appeazs to have increased from 67% to 86% between annual monitoring. Survival calculations appeaz
to be affected by resprouting of shrubs from stems or roots which were previously counted as dead. This is noted most prominently in
the Gambel's Oak which is the most difficult to locate and to determine the survival status. The browse rate increased from 42% to
94%. All species were observed with a high browse rate with no apparent preference for species. Browse will likely result in
continued mortality on this site over time.
8
¢'
~: ;

•
