6 <br />covered the entire mine permit boundary and additional property <br />under Southdown's ownership, with the cultural resource Study <br />Area encompassing more than 2,200 acres (Section 3.0). <br />Eliaibil;ty Evaluations <br />All cultural resources sites have been inventoried and documents <br />with the appropriate forms and submitted to the Colorado <br />Historical Society, Office of Archaeology and Historic <br />Preservation (SHPO) for determinations of eligibility for <br />inclusion on the National and State Register of Historic Places. <br />Twenty-two prehistoric sites have been identified in the Study <br />Area; 8 are recommended as eligible for the NRHP. Eight historic <br />sites have been identified in the Study Area; seven are <br />recommended as eligible for the NRHP. <br />Determination of Project rmpacts <br />Based upon evaluations by SHPO and Boulder County on the <br />significance of cultural resources in the Study Area, further <br />analysis was completed by Southdown, the State of Colorado, and <br />Boulder County to determine if the Project has an effect or <br />specific impact upon these significant cultural resources. No <br />known NRHP eligible resources are located within the mine and <br />reclamation impact zone. Four NRHP eligible irrigation ditches <br />must be crossed by the quarry haul road (Section 3.0). <br />Effects may be adverse in the case of actions that severely alter <br />or necessitate removal of a cultural resource. An adverse effect <br />may not directly impact a resource, but significantly alter the <br />context or setting of that resource. To assist in a <br />determination of adverse effects, this CRMP presents a detailed <br />set of geologic, prehistoric, and historic contexts for the Study <br />Area (Section 2.0). <br />Effects may be beneficial in the case where a cultural resource <br />is not altered and received documentation, proactive management, <br />and protection.
