the Sage Creek basin. [lost walla exhibit typical seasonal fluctuations, although soma lag
• time for the spring recharge is observed. Well YOV2B (upgradient of the currant mine pit)
has experienced a decrease in water levels ainca August 1996. well YOy27 was mined out ae
of August 1997.
Wedge Coal. Tan rella; YW2, 7, 14, 18, 21, 23, 26, anQ 28 to 30; monitor the coal. Wells
YW21, 23, 26, and 28 exist in the Armand Draw basin, all others exist in the Saqr Czaek
basin. Due to the low aquifer transmieaivitiea, aeaaonal rater level fluctuations era
much leas pronounced than the alluvium and overburden, and are often masked by water
sampling affects. Well YW26 (upgradient of the current mina pit) has experienced a
decrease in rater levels ainca .Tune 1996, and was mined out in August 1997. Well YW28
(upgradient of the current mine pit) has experienced decreasing rater lavel9 ainca October
1996.
Wedge Underburden. Five walla; YWU16, 17, 2B, 29, and 30; monitor the Wedge undarburden.
Well YWU28 exlai9 in the Armand Draw basin, all others exist in the Sage Creek basin.
None of these walla exhibit any significant aeaaonal variation, although some variation
from year-to-year is evident. Well YWU28 (upgradient of the current mine pit) has
• exper ienced decreasing rater lavela ainca Juno 1996.
wolf Creak Coal and Underburden. One well each monitors these two unite, YWC31 and
YWCU31. Well YWC31 exhibits very little seasonal variation. Nell YwCU31 i9 normally dry.
Hoth wells exist in the Sage Creak basin.
Ground Water Quality. Table 4 shove the ground rater parameter list used for all roll
water samples. Appendix C provides all rater quality data collected during this reporting
period, along with sampling remarks. This ie follored by a plot of TDS versus time for
the entire period of record. The regression line on this plot is generated by a method
knorn as LOWESS (Locally Weighted Scatterplot Smoothing). A smoothness factor of 1 (on a
scale of 0 to 1) rae used, rhich gives maximum smoothing. Finally, this plot is followed
by a table listing historic TDS values and percent milliaquivalenta for major ions.
Alluvium. One wall, YAALld, monitoxa water quality in the Armand Draw alluvium. TDS
values for this well display a level trend.
i
3
