' The following gradation limits were adopted for the Type 1 raise 2 embankment fill material.
' U.S. Standard Sieve Size % Finer By Weight
6 inch 100
' 3/8 inch 65-100
No. 4 45/95
' No. 10 25-85
No. 40 5-70
No. 200 0-35
Where significant oversize material was encountered in the fill material, as Flaced on the
embankment, this oversize was removed by working to the outside and inside slope: of the raise,
or broken down in-place by the weight of the fill compaction equipment.
' Embankment raise fill was compacted to a minimum of 85 percent of the maximum dry density
(ASTM D-698). The fill was placed in maximum one and a half foot thick loose lifts and
compacted through trafficking by over-the-road bottom dump eighteen wheel semi-trucks and
a 12-ton, Caterpillar Model CP-563, vibrating, sheeps-foot compactor. Haul tru<:k traffic was
' routed by the 14G Motor Grader operator, to provide coverage of the fill. The entire thickness
of each lift was tested for minunum density requirements as set forth in the Technical
Specifications and was found to meet these requirements. On the shoulders of the embankment
and access ramps, the sheeps-foot compactor was utilized to achieve passing densities.
The results of the QA/QC testing for the embankment raise fill are presented in Appendix A of
this report.

' S
1
