Temperature
Extremely warm or cold weather is usually of short duration.
1 Because Denver is located at the foot of the east slope of the Rocky
Mountains in the belt of the prevailing westerlies, cumuiiform clouds
' occur during most summer afternoons to shade the area so that
temperatures of 90 degrees or over are reached on an average of only
' thirty-two days a year, and in only one year in five does the temperature
reach 100 degrees. In the cold season the high altitude and the location
' of the mountains to the west combine to moderate temperatures so that
' the average winter temperature usually is above that of other cities at the
same Latitude. The monthly record mean, maximum, and minimum values
' for average daily temperature at the Denver weather station are tabulated
' below for 1872 - 1977.
Mean Avg. Maximum Avg.
