3.3 CULTURAL AND HISTORIC RESOURCES INFORMATION
3.3.1 Mine
The North Thompson Creek Mines have been in operation since 1952 and
no new surface disturbance areas are anticipated. Wo cultural or
historic resources are listed in, or proposed for inclusion in, the
National Register of Historic Places for the mine area.
3.3.2 Loadout
A review of the files of the State Archaeological and the State
Preservation Office in September, 1981, indicated that there are no
recorded archaeological resources in the project area, In fall 1979
and 1980, Powers Elevation performed pedestrian surveys and shovel
tests of the site. This investigation revealed that the site con-
tained a few surficial artifacts, no features or evidence of fire
• use, and no apparent subsurface deposits. The potential for subsur-
face deposits is small, as the soil is less than 20 cm. deep in most
places. Therefore, the site is unlikely to yield information impor-
tant to the cultural history of the area. The site does not appear to
be eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic
Places. Results of this survey have been submitted to the Office of
the State Archaeologist for review of compliance and adequacy. See
Appendix 3-B for more detailed information.

3-12
