• 3.4 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF HYDROLOGY AND GEOLOGY
3,4.1 Regional Geologic Description
The North Thompson Creek mine and loadout facility are located on the
upturned edge of Grand Hogback monocline, at the eastern edge of the
Piceance Basin. Regional dips are westeriy, between 20 and 40
degrees. Faulting in the region is limited to small-displacement nor-
mal faults which are perpendicular to the monoclinal axis. Minor
north-south to northwest-southeast trending folds occur throughout the
region.
Sedimentary rock-units in the region include formations that are
Pennsylvanian through Cretaceous in age. Minor tertiary basalts cap
many of the ridges and several glacial and post-glacial unconsolidated
deposits occur in the region. Drawing Numbers D-3-6 and D-3-7 show
regional geology.
C~

3-13
