0
Final reclamation re-seeding in the pit floor of all excavation areas of this permit area
(current & pre-permit) shall be postponed for the life of the mine in order to utilize
that space for product processing and stockpiling operations. Salvageable topsoil is
not expected to be found in sufficient quantities to topsoil the entire disturbed area.
Stockpiled topsoil (having former vegetation incorporated therein) shall be distributed
evenly over disturbed and finish-graded surfaces of the side-slopes only in the permit
area. Such topsoiling at approximately six inches deep, is the maximum effort to
restore all available existing plant growth medium available at the site. Plant growth
capability shall be enhanced by added fertilizer and crimping mulch into the surface.
13.1.1o) Re-vegetation of the entire site shall be attempted by the following
procedures.
(i) Topsoiling (as described above (3.1.9)) and the desirable grass species re-
seeded.
(ii) Except for temporary critical area seeding of topsoil stockpiles during
extraction and process operations, no reclamation seeding shall be attempted
until all mining, re-grading, and topsoiling has been completed.
(iii) Subject to soil testing to be performed on the stockpiled topsoil, the following
list of grass seed shall be used for required post-mining re-vegetation seeding.
bottlebrush squirreltail (var: native) @ 5.1 Lb PLS'/Ac.
Indian ricegrass (Nezpar) @ 2.5 Lb PLS/Ac.
bluebunch wheatgrass (Secar) @ 2.8 Lb PLS/Ac.
western wheatgrass (Arriba) @ 4.0 Lb PLS/Ac.
Lewis flax (Appar) @ 0.5 Lb PLS/Ac.
fourwing saltbush @ 0.5 Lb PLS/Ac.
(iv) Seed shall be drilled 1/2-inch to %-inch into the prepared, fertilized soil by a
grass seed drill, having 6 to 8-inch row spacing and a drag incorporated
behind to cover seed.
(v) Seeded areas shall be mulched with 2 ton/acre local straw or hay that is
crimped 2 inches into the soil with a mechanical crimper or weighted, un-
canted soil disc.
(vi) No tree nor shrub re-vegetation shall be attempted. Native sage incorporated
into the topsoil at the time of the initial site stripping is expected to cause
volunteer black sage re-growth.
(3.1.11) Buildings & Structures — not applicable -- none at the site, except permitted
portable process equipment and truck scale assembly.
Fertilizer shall be disced into the finish-spread(or rip-loosened)surface soil at the rate and concentration
recommended by NRCS following and dependent upon soil tests to be made of the stockpiled topsoil and
available surface soils(plant growth medium).
'PLS=pure live seed
17
