.,
r
completion date. It could be mined out in five yeazs, but realistically could last as
long as twenty yeazs. Tt is totally dependem on need and actual use. We have
therefore listed the ending date as indefinite.
Please estimate the depth to which topsoil will be salvaged for use in the
reclamatioa process.
Topsoil at the site appears to about six inches in depth. That six-inch layer will
be stockpiled for use in reclamation.
The applicant states that the topsoil piles will be seeded with vegetation to
prevent soil erosion. Please specify the slopes of the topsoil piles, the
temporary seed mixture to be used on the piles and the method and
application rate for seeding the piles. The Divisioa rernmmends a
combination of 2-3 of the species noted below be applied on the stockpiled
material at a rate of 1516s./acre.
Topsoil slopes may be as steep as 2:1 as the topsoil might be stockpiled with a
front-end loader. Western Wheatgrass and Smooth Bromegrass will be used at a
rate of 151bs./acre. The seed will be broadcast.
• The applicant states that supply of the resource to be mixed is undetermined.
However, please approximate the thickmess of the material to be mined.
Since no exploration holes have been dug at this site, it is difficult to accurately
ascertain thickness of the material to be mined. Based on the experience of
similaz pits in northeastern Colorado, it is anticipated that mining depth could be
twenty to twecriy-five feet.
• The applicant states that the creek is subject to periodic fbwa daring heavy
runoff. To ensure the protection of the hydrologic balance, please specify the
location of egaipment, oil, grease, etc. that will be used during the mining
operation. Ia addition, the applicant will need to describe the measures to be
taken to minimize the disturbance to the hydrologic balance, prevent off site
damage, and provide for a stable configuration of the reclaimed area. If
surface water structures are planned (such as diversion ditches, and storm
water runoff controls) it must be stated so in the application and included on
the maps. Attached to this letter is a DMG policy regarding the notification
of toxic or hazardous materials spills at mine sites.
All equipment will be removed from the pit area at the end of each working day.
It will either be pazked up on the naturally occurring surface outside of the
disturbed area or taken back to the Ensminger shop at his construction business
neaz Haxtun. All maintenance will take place out of the pit azea back at the
