Diameter: l~ feet. <br /> <br />.• <br />Habitat: Moist soils along streams in mountains with <br />willows and alders in coniferous forests. <br />Remarks: An abundant wild cottonwood, its root <br />system makes it suitable for erosion con- <br />trol. <br />Quaking Aspens (POpulus tremuloides) <br />Description: A member of the willow family, this tree <br />has a narrow, rounded crown of thin foliage <br />of shiny green leaves that turn a golden- <br />yellow in autumn before shedding. <br />Height: 40-70 feet. <br />Diameter: 1-1'~ feet. <br />Habitat: Found in many soil types, especially on <br />moist sandy and gravelly slopes; often in <br />pure stands. <br />Remarks: A pioneer tree after fires and logging, it <br />is often short-lived and replaced by coni- <br />fers. The twigs and foliage are browsed by <br />deer.
