• imately 0.03 acres. Excavation will be done with a backhoe
or dozer; topsoil material will be excavated first and stored
for later replacement and revegetation.
4. Drilling
Drilling and coring will be accomplished with Model 524
Portadrills, or like equipment, using mud, foam or airlift
methods. Water for drilling will be hauled in a 3,000 gallon
or similar water truck from the Southfield Mine water
sources. Drill cuttings and fluids will be contained in the
mud pits or within the drill pad area. A van-type geophysi-
cal logging truck will run standard electrical induction,
natural gamma and caliper logs on each completed drill hole.
5. Drill Hole Abandonment
As each drill hole is finished, it will be sealed to within
10 feet of the surface with abandonment drill mud and drill.
cuttings with the exception of the borehole site. During
drilling, each hole will be monitored to detect any water
producing zones. Any such aquifer zones will be sealed with
. cement grout extending 10 feet above and below the limits of
the estimated water producing zone. A cement plug will be
placed above the abandonment fluid up to approximately 3 feet
• below the ground surface. Soil will be used to fill the
remaining distance along with a metal stake protruding
through the surface for future drill hole identification.
6. Drill Site Rehabilitation
All drill sites requiring pad leveling will be regraded after
completion of drilling to their approximate original shape.
Stored topsoil will then be redistributed over the disturbed
area in preparation for revegetation. All mud pits will be
allowed to dry prior to backfilling. During backfilling,
nonsoil material will be first placed in the pit followed by
topsoil, then graded to their approximate original configura-
tion. Regrading and backfilling will be accomplished with a
dozer and/or backhoe.
7. Drill Site Cleanup and Seedbed Preparation
All trash and debris will be removed from each drill site and
hauled to the Southfield Mine for disposal. Any remaining
,drill cuttings which are exposed at the sites will be spread
such that they are unnoticable. Finally, the disturbed
ground surface at each site will be scarified in order to
provide a good seedbed. The maximum anticipated disturbance
for each drill site is approximately 0.1 acres, resulting in
• a total site disturbance of 0.3 acres.
