Pond Sealing
Because of the potential for local ground water contamination, the sediment
pond will be sealed.
Following sealing, a pond leakage study will be performed. This two week
study was conducted June 16 to July 1, 1986. Results from the study indicated
estimated pond leakage to be less than evaporation amounts. Based on this
study it was determined that pond sealing efforts were acceptable. Continued
monitoring of the effectiveness of the pond seal will be observed and reported
in quarterly pond inspection reports.
•
Diversian and Collection Ditches
A number of diversion and collection ditches have been designed and will be
constructed as part of the drainage and sediment control plan. Ditch Nos. 1,
2 and 3 are located to intercept runoff from the undisturbed areas and divert
this water at the perimeter of the disturbed area. Ditch Nos. 4 and 5 collect
runoff from the disturbed area and route this flow to the sediment pond.
Collection ditches at the base of soil substitute stockpiles contain the
runoff and the sediment within these areas. Locations of ditches are shown on
Map 12, Coal Gulch Mine Facilities. Typical cross sections are shown on
Figure 3, Typical Diversion Ditch Cross Sections. Design calculations are
• Revised 9/12/86
5
