These iteas were located about
120 meters south of I.P. 309, near the southeastern corner of the sur-
vey area. The nonutilized flake is maaufacrured from light can chert,
with heavy white patination and some cortex on one face of the flake.
The measurements are 18.3 mm. for the length, 15.4 mm. for the width
tad 5.4 mm. for the cross-sectional thickness. The scraper vas obser-
ved about 15 meters west of this flake in a narrow drainage cut. This
tool measures 42.5 m, in length, 39.3 mm. is width and 8.1 mm. in thick-
ness. Two portions:of che_artifacts''edge have bees b L`aciallq retouche3
and most of the reeataiag edge has been uaifacialiy retouched. Edge da:aga is also micro-
scopicaL'y evident oa the b L-"acial'_y retouched portions of t5e tool
edge, but it is not clear whether this is deliberate utilizat_on or
whether it is t`:e result of f'_ake removal and/or platfora preparation.
This art+~act is genPra~y subtriaagular in outline and piano-corves is
cross section.
Both the iia;se and the tool were :o~:ad ca t'.:e scut: side c' s -ii=e
composed of grey-brow sandy loan soil interspersed with small graves.
Some linestcae occ::rs natural'_y'ia this portion of the survey area, but
the dominant lithic materials on the surface are metamorphosed shale
out-croppings. Vegetation at the site includes rabbitbrush, sage,
phlox, barrel cactus, and various grasses.
•
