The grass seed should be planted with a grass drill equipped with an
agitator. If a drill is not available, the seed can be broadcast
seeded, but the seeding rate must be doubled. The seeding should be
done in the fall of the year generally in the month of November. If
this ie impractical then seeding can be done in April. Care moat be
taken to prevent the planting of the seed to deep; the seed should
not be aqy deeper than one inch with a preferred depth of one half
inch.
4• Mulch should be applied to the reseeded area inorder to help
stabilize the soil and slow erosion. The mulch used should be
equivalent to 1000 lbe/acre of cereal grain straw. If a straw or
• hay mulch is used, some method of anchoring should be included,
such as netting or crimping the straw into the soil.
5. All areas should be fertilized Juat prior to seeding. A soil test
should be performed to determine the proper amount of fertilizer.
In lieu of a soil test an application of not lees than $0 lbe/A.
of nitrogen applied as part of a complete fertilizer with an analysis
ratio of not lees then 10-6-1; (N-P-%).
If the area is to be successfully relcaimed, the area should be pro-
tected from grazing and disturbance until plants are established.
If you have arty questions or need more assistance, please contact me.
Sincerely
Richard ~ Mulli7
Range Conservationist
•
-2-
