Soil Conservation Service <br />1919 Bighway 5o west <br />Pueblo, CO 81008 <br />May 2, 1984 <br />Barnhart Agency, Inc. <br />212 w. 13th street <br />Pueblo, Colorado 81003 <br />Dear Buck <br />• Thie ie in reference to the field investigation done April 24, 1984 on <br />the Oakleaf Pit. The folloxing information may be used by your compagy to <br />fulfill the requirements of Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for a 110 <br />permit. <br />The proposed gravel pit has been located on the attached soil survey map <br />in Section 35, Township 20 S, Bangs 64 W. The major Boil ie Las Animas fine <br />sandy loam (LM). This soil is described on the attached Conservation Plan <br />Map and Soil and Capability Map Legend Sheet. <br />The area has a large population of trees, mostly cottonwood and tamariz. <br />The underetory contains mostly alkali sacaton, inland saltgraes, rester wheat- <br />grase, dock species, and kochia. A list of the existing vegetation is attached. <br />The Soil Conservation Service reco®ends the folloxing steps that should <br />be taken to stabilize the site after mining operations are completed: <br />1. Slopes should be no steeper than 3:1 <br />2. The top soil should be stock piled prior to mining. The land rill <br />be scarified to a depth of siz inches following grading to provide <br />better cohesion between topsoil and graded area. The topsoil <br />should be overlayed across the distrubed area to depth of eiz inches <br />or more after the final grade has been established. Compaction of <br />• the soil material ie inportaat; it insures a fire seedbed for plant <br />geraunation and growth. <br />3. A seed mixture should be planted to stabilize the disturbed area. <br />A suggested nizture is: <br />Varie Species of Miz Seed rate (P.L.S.) <br />Arriba Western Wheatgrase 4896 7.7 <br />Saltalk Alkali Sacaton 4836 .~ <br />Yellox Sxeetclover 4 96 •3 <br />-1- <br />
