LAS ANIMAS SERIES <br />The Lae Animas series consists of deep, somewhat poorly drained soils. <br />These soils formed on bottoo landsia loam alluvium. The native vegetation <br />ie salt-tolerant grasses and woody plants <br />In a representative profile the surface layer, about 6 inches thick, ie <br />very pale brows fine sandy loam that has yellowish-brown mottles. The.aubsur- <br />face layer, about 12 inch es thick, ie very pale brown stratified fine sand and <br />fine sandy loss that has dark yellowish-brown and gray aottles. The underlying <br />material is about 23 inches of light brownish-gray fine sandy loss that has <br />dark-gray mottles over dark-gray stratified silty clay loam and fine sandy loam <br />that extends to a depth of 60 inches or more. <br />• Permeability ie moderately rapid, and the available water capacity ie high. <br />These soils are moderately alkaline to strongly alkaline the PH is 7.9-8.4• <br />Their root zone extends to a depth of 60 inches or more. Most of these soils <br />are used for grazing. <br />Lm - Las Animas fine sandy loam <br />This soil is on bottom lands of rivers and creeks. Runoff ie slow, and <br />the hazard of water erosion is alight. The soil is subject to frequent, brief <br />flooding. The water table is at a depth of 1.5 to 3 feet.
