**"Partial" chemical parameters: Temperature, Specific Conductance, pH,
Alkalinity, Total Hardness, TDS, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium,
•' Bicarbonate, Sulface, and Nitrate.
Response: Northern has submitted a prior letter to CMLR on March 31, 1982
which indicates its intent to change the frequency of ground water monitoring.
Please reference that letter, a copy of which is attached at.~ibi~ 3-li.
of this submission.
4. On exhibit 9-21, the applicant shows a large scale (1" 500') surficial
geologic and drill hole location map. The applicant should provide
additional information on this map including strike and dip symbols of coal
seams and overburden, local faulting or structural trends, and landslides.
Response: Regulations do not require that strike and dip symbols of coal
seams and overburden, local faulting or structural trends, and landslides
be shown on the particular map. Each of those items can be found on maps
relative to. the particular coal seams throughout the application.
5. The applicant has prepared a lineament analysis and map for the CI~II.RB
on the total leased area. This analysis and lineament map should be made
an intergral part of the permit application.
Response: Northern has no record of 'preparing such a map for CNII,R. We
would be happy to discuss this further.
6. In order to provide verification of mine inflow, ground water inflow,
~. and streamflow depletion calculations, the applicant shall provide all monitor-
ing data on mine inflow, water level fluctuations, stream flaw and pump tests,
etc., which have been collected since submittal of the original permit
application or the October 1979 water report.
Response: Please see response to item 2.04.7(1) ground water information of
the June 25, 1981 letter in this submission.
7. On table G-20, V-5, Chapter G, the applicant uses preliminary pump test
data from Appendix B V-5. The applicant shall provide the final pump test
curves and revise the text and table G-20 as necessary.
Response: This "preliminary pump test data"are all we have available. There-
orf e; %t will not be necessary to Yeduce these data Eo a final curve. This
informatign is final. .
8. On table G-21 and figure G-10, the applicant presents analyses for wells
HRB-1, IIRB-2, IIFC-10 and HFO-lA. Water samples from these wells show unusually
high constituent levels for specific conductance, pH, alkalinity, hardness,
calcium, sodium, and carbonate. These high values suggest contamination of
water samples from cenent grouting procedures. The applicant should provide
more recent analyses showing more representative water quality characteristics
or redevelop, sample and reanalyze said wells.
Response: Please see response to 2.04.7(1) ground water information of the
June 25, 1981 letter in this submission.
4
