~~~
2.05.6(3)(b)(iii) Hydrolog Monitoring
1. The applicant should locate and construct an additional monitoring well
into the G coal seam. An appropriate place to locate this well would he in
the vicinity of existing well battery 79-09. According to mine plan maps
submitted by porthern'; most existing monitoring wells located in the G coal
seam will be mined-out within the five year permit period.
• Response: In light of the fact that Northern has curtailed its mine plan
over the next 5 year period, it is unnecessary to install this well as none
will be mined out.
2. The following chemical parameters should be added to Northern's "Full
Suite"* chemical analysis scheme: Aluminum, Arsenic, Lead. All future
water quality monitoring should include these elements.
Response: Northern will add these parameters to its "Full Suite" monitoring.
However, it should be noted that the CMLRB is anticipating changing
these monitoring requirements and torthern reserves the right to change [he
parameters in this "Full Suite" analysis pursuant to changes by the health
department.
3. After permit issuance,Northern may adjust the frequency of its ground
water monitoring as follows.
a. Monthly water level checks in all alluvial wells.
b. Quarterly water level checks in all bedrock wells.
c. Quarterly water quality analysis in all alluvial wells including
alternating "Full Suite"* and "Partial"** chemical parameter
requirement.
d. Semi-annual water quality analysis in bedrock wells including
alternating "Full Suite"* and "Partial"** chemical parameter
requirements.
e. All data collected through this monitoring plan should be submitted
to the Division annually.
*"Full Snite" chemical parameters: As described on page G-14 of Northern`s
mine application (also including Aluminum, Arsenic, and Lead).
3 ~~.~.~
~.
