RECLAMATION PLAN • ~ EXHIBIT E (CONT)
SEEDBED PREPARATION
SLAB ROCK AREA
When mining on an area is complete, reclamation will begin
as soon as practical. on an area where slopes into the excavated
area will not be redisturbed, sloping will begin shortly after
mining ends in that area. As noted in the mining plan, waste
rock will be used to build the base of the slopes. Once this is
done the growth medium will be spread over them and they will be
revegetated using the approved seed mixture. On the floor of the
mined area where bedrock is exposed, the overburden will be
spread uniformly over the rock to create a seedbed. Since this
rock is hard ripping the surface is impractical and would not
improve the chances for successful reclamation. During
reapplication of the soils and overburden the area will be worked
until moderately smooth.
SURFACE STONE AREA
On the areas where surface stone is removed the area under
the rock (if dirt exists) will be raked, and smoothed of large
clods. Since these areas will be broadcast seeded, the surface
will be left fairly rough to trap the seed and keep it from being
affected by wind. Very little work will be necessary on these
small sites and this will be done immediately after rock picking
is complete. In the areas where no soil exists the perimeter of
the hole will be shaped if dirt is available, if it is solid rock
the sides will be left as found.
FERTILIZER
The NRCS usually recommends using 40 pounds per acre of a
nitrogen fertilizer and 40 pounds of a phosphoric acid (PzO,)
unless a soil test is performed to determine proper fertilizer
needs. Once the amount of fertilizer is determined, it will be
applied to the seedbed just prior to planting. We plan to do
this when the overburden has been replaced. On the surface rock
area it will be spread at the same time the area is seeded and
raked.
SEEDING TIME
on the Slab Rock area the grass seed mixture will be planted
from early fall thru mid-spring (November 1 to April 30). The
time of planting will be controlled by when the resoiled areas
20
