RECLAMATION PLAN • ~ EXHIBIT E (CONY)
are ready for planting and when weather conditions permit. if
fall planting is convenient, the seeding will be done before the
first freeze (about the time Winterwheat is planted). if spring
planting is called for, it will be done in March or April. Both
periods assure there will be adequate residual ground moisture
available to the newly planted seeds. No planting will take
place if the ground is frozen.
On the surface stone area seeding will take place as mining
in an area ends. The stone collectors will have a bucket of seed
available and when they are done working an area it will be
reseeded. This will assure the site begins to regenerate as soon
as possible after being disturbed.
GRASSES
This seed mixture is a mix of native grasses designed to
enhance the site, some of the species may invade naturally to the
site over time as they are found on surrounding areas. The
mixture contains native grasses and hardy introduced species that
should restore the site to at least its existing condition.
PROPOSED SEED MIX
Species PLS/Acre
Blue Grama 0.50
Sideoats Grama 3.00
Western Wheatgrass IBartonl 2.00
Crested Wheatgrass 1.00
Green Needlegrass 1.00
White Prairie Clover 0.50
8.00
The number of Pounds-Live Seed (PLS) are calculated using
the recommendations laid out in an SCS publication, Technical Note
Paper "Colorado Agronomy Note NO. 61". This mixture would provide
approximately 46.1 seeds per square foot when properly drilled.
in the stone slab area a grass drill will be used to plant the
seed from ~ to 1 inch deep with the drill rows no more that 12
inches apart.
On the surface stone area the seed amount will be doubled
and broadcast spread on a roughened surface. The seeded areas
will then be dragged or raked thoroughly to set the seed. It is
important to keep cattle off all the revegetated areas until the
grasses have been established (for at least three growing
seasons). If this is not done the grasses will not be
21
