ERO Resources
•
This conplex occurs on ridgetops and sides lopes at intermediate elewtionx
and dew loped from fine-textured calcareous residuum primarily from
shale. It is comprised of about 45 percent Moyerson soils anxi 25 percent
rock outcrop. Sma11 areas of Redcreek and Renteac were included in
mapping. Redcreek soils are shallow and loamy. Rentsac soils are shallow
and loony-skeletal. These included soils occupy about 10 percent of the
unit.
The Moyerson soil is challow, calcareous and well-drained. In a typical
profile, the surface layer is light yellowish brown sandy loam about 2
inches thick. The subsurface soil is light yellowish brown channery loam
about S inches thick. The substratum is pa l• brown oaloareoua channvey
silty clay about 14 inches thick and is underlain with fractured,
interbedded sandstone, loamstone and shale at a depth of 14 inches.
The Moyerson soil has moderately slow to slow permeability and medium to
• moderately rapid runoff. The erosion hazard is low to moderate frow wind
and moderate to high from water. Available waterholding capacity is
ioderate. Effeotiw rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches.
The rock outcrop is primarily exposed shale, siltatone and clayetone
bedrock which is calcareous, brown to yellow and fractured. Included with
rook outcrop are wry shallow, skeletal soils adjacent to e~osed bedrock.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The
vegetation is primarily mixed perermial grasses, sparse big sagebrush and
some areas of chvatgrasv.
The average depth of suitable topsoil material is 6 inches. This material
iv rated poor to fair with suitability decreasing with depth.
•
II.I-17
