ERO Resources
•
This complex occurs on steep sides topes and ridgetops at intermediate
elevations and developed front fine-textured calcareous residuum primarily
from shale. It is co~rised of about 50 percent rock outcrop and 40
percent Moyvrson soils. Small areas of Redcreek and Rentsao were ineluded
in mapping. Redcreek soils are shallow and loamy. Rentsao soils are
shallow and toa~ry-skeletal. Thew included soils occupy about 10 percent
of the unit.
The rock outcrop is primarily exposed shale, siltstone and claystone
bedrock which is calcareous, brown to yellow and fractured. Included with
rock outcrop are very shallow, skeletal soils adjacent to exposed bedrock.
The Moyerson soil is shallow, calcareous and well-drained. In a typical
profile, the surface layer is light yellowish brown sandy loam about 2
inches thick. the subsurface soil is 11ght yellowish brown channery loam
about 5 inches thick. The substratum is pale brown calcareous channery
• silty clay about 7 inches thick and is urdsrlain with fractured,
interbedded sandstone, loamstone and shale at a depth of 14 inches.
The Moyerson soil has moderately slow to slow permeability and medium to
moderately rapid runoff. The erosion hazard is low to moderate from wind
and moderate to high from water. Available waterholding capacity is
moderate. Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches.
This soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The
vegetation is primarily mixed perennial grasses, sparse big sagebrush and
some areas of cheatgrasa.
The average Wpth of suitable topsoil material is 4 inches. This material
is rated poor to fair with suitability decreasing with depth.

II.I-18
