or have been conducted, including all accessory access roads, land <br />excavations, workings, mining waste, and areas where structures, <br />facilities, and surface mining equipment, machines, tools, or other <br />materials or property are located. <br />1.7.7 Mineral sha{I mean any naturally-occurring chemical <br />elements, compounds, or groups of elements and compounds, <br />formed from inorganic processes or organic substances, including, <br />but not limited to gold, coal, granite, metals, peat, "redrock" sand <br />and gravel, tar sand, bituminous sandstone, and other industrial <br />minerals, but excluding geothermal resources, natural gas, and <br />petroleum. <br />1.7.8 Mining Waste shall mean residual soil, minerals, liquid, <br />vegetation, tailings, abandoned equipment, tools, and other <br />materials or physical conditions directly resulting from or displaced <br />by mining. <br />1.7.9 Mining, Hard Rock shall mean metallic ore taken from <br />subterranean surface veins in solid rock without overburden <br />material removal; and/or existing hard rock mine waste rock <br />removal for metallic ore extraction and/or relocation for <br />reclamation purposes. <br />1.7.10 Mining, Open Cut shall mean the displacement and/or <br />removal of relatively large quantities of overburden material greatly <br />altering the natural surface topography. <br />1.7.11 Mining, Placer shall mean metallic ore taken from <br />alluvial deposits where the majority of matrix material is left on <br />site. <br />1.7.12 Mining, Prospecting, shall mean mineral exploration <br />resulting in no gross income from the sale of mined ore. <br />Gilpin County Zoning Regulations 27 <br />
