Mapping Unit 34C
• Coutis fine sandy loam
This is a deep, somewhat excessively drained soil on gently to strongly
sloping mountain sideslopes of 3 to 65 percent. It formed in residuum
weathered from sandstone. This series is encountered in a band along
Foidel Creek from the south side of Pinnacle Peak northward. The pre-
dominate native vegetation is sagebrush.
Included in this unit are small areas of Skylick loam (66D), Skyway (70)
sandy loam, and Winevada fine sandy loam (53D).
Typically the surface layers are dark grayish brown and brown fine sandy
loams about 37 inches thick. The lower part of the surface layer is a
• pale brown fine sandy loam about 8 inches thick. The substratum is
light yellowish brown fine sandy loam extending to 60 inches or more.
Permeability is moderate. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more.
Available water-holding capacity is moderate. Surface runoff is slow,
erosion hazard is high from wind and low from water.
~1
-8-
