Mapping Unit SSA
• Silas loam
Silas loam is a deep, well-drained soil in nearly level to strongly
sloping valley floors. It formed in alluvium of mixed sources. The
only tract of this soil on the proposed permit area is along Middle
Creek east of the 16284 Lease Area. The area there is currently being
used as hayland.
Small areas having 15 to 35 percent by volume cobbles and stones occur.
Typically the surface layer is a very dark grayish brown sandy loam
about 14 inches thick. The underlying material is grayish brown sandy
clay loam to 60 inches or more. Depth to watertable is 40 to 50 inches.
U
Permeability is moderate. Available water capacity is moderate. Effec-
tive rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Surface runoff is slow and
erosion hazard is slight.
•
-12-
