Mapping Unit 52A
• Venable loam
The Venable series consists of a deep, somewhat poorly drained soils
that have formed in mixed alluvium. Venable soils are found on the
gently undulating valley bottom along Fish Creek within the subject
area. The native vegetation is native grass and scattered sagebrush.
Included with this soil in mapping are a few small areas with water at
or near the surface, with scattered cobbles on the surface, or soils
with underlying sand and gravel.
Typically this soil has a thin deposit of undecomposed and partly
decomposed organic matter on the surface. The surface soil layer is a
• very dark grayish brown loam about 9 inches thick. The underlying
material is stratified dark colored clay looms and looms. Bright
colored mottles occur at about 24 inches.
Permeability is moderately slow. The available water capacity is high.
Effective rooting depth is 24 inches or more. Surface runoff is slow
and erosion hazard is slight from wind and water.
r 1
U
-11-
