Mapping Unit SOC <br />• Cochetopa loam <br />This is a deep, well-drained soil on gently to moderately sloping <br />mountain sideslopes and benches. It formed in material weathered from <br />shale. The native vegetation is mainly aspen, oak brush, and snowberry. <br />Cochetopa loam appears as a pure series only in the northwest corner of <br />Eckman Park. It is an important part of the Unnamed (2NE) complex. <br />Small areas of Routt loam (2V D) and Buckskin loam (2E) are included in <br />mapping. <br />Typically the surface layer is dark grayish brown loam about 18 inches <br />thick. The subsoil is yellowish brown clay loam about 29 inches thick. <br />• The substratum is yellowish brown clay loam to 60 inches or more. Per- <br />meability is slow. Available water capacity is high. Reaction is <br />neutral throughout the profile. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or <br />more. Surface runoff is slow and erosion hazard is slight. <br /> <br />-10- <br />
