Wyoming full Compon~
12055 W. Second Place • P.O.Box15596 • Lakewood. Colorado 80215 • Telephone (303)989-5037
August 15, 1985 revised
December 8, 1986
Mr. Jeff Deckler
Reclamation Specialist
Colorado Mined Iand Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
Re: Rill and Gully Plan for New Elk and Golden Fagle Mines, Permit No.
C-012-81 and C-013-81.
Dear Mr. Deckler:
By this letter Wyaning Fuel Canpany
Plan for the above mentioned mines.
requirements outlined in the July 8,
(WFC) is submitting a Rill and Gully
This plan is submitted as per the
1985 memorandum from Dave Shelton.
At the New Elk Mine, WFC has reclaimed a portion of the surface disturbance
area. This reclaimed area includes the Middle Fork Diversion of the
Purgatoire and the Sediment pond embankments in the New Elk refuse disposal
area. Slopes in these areas range from 2 horizontal to 1 vertical to 3
horizontal to 1 vertical. All slopes were hydro-seeded and hydro-mulched
in June of 1985. These moderately steep slopes are subject to rill and
gully formation. Erosion on these slopes will most likely occur between
June and August when the mine area receives intense surtener thunderstorms.
To date vegetation establishment on the slopes has been fair to good. As
expected the north facing aspects are out performing the southern aspects.
Seedling establishment has been good in dozer tracks and small rills.
WFC has not done any reclamation at the Golden Eagle Mine to date. Past
reclamation has included sediment pond embankments, the intake shaft area
in Apache Canyon and general slope stabilization near the sewer treatment
facility.
As a preventive measure and maintenance for excessive rills and gullys, WFC
is proposing the following plan. 1) Areas of revegetation whether
permanent or temporary will be inspected annually for rill and gullying.
The frequency of inspection will be once after snow melt and monthly
inspections from June through August. Reseeding will be accomplished
between May 15 and June 1 as necessary. Erosion resulting fraa spring
run-off and the previous year summer storm events will have already
occured. Following the summer months, if necessary, additional repair and
seeding will be conducted or temporary measures will be implemented to
carry over to the spring repair and seeding. Temporary measures may
include hay bales, rock checks, snow fence or other appropriate measure
•
