Hovenweep National Monument <br />Cultural resources on BLM lands within a one-mile radius <br />of Hovenweep National Monument (Goodman Point, Cutthroat <br />Castle, Hackberry, and Holly Groups) will be given <br />special management emphasis while multiple use con- <br />tinues. Additional reclamation on surface disturbing <br />operations may be required. Seismic operators will be <br />encouraged to use portable (helicopter) methods when <br />within one-half mile of the park boundaries in order to <br />protect the resources in the National Monument. Proposed <br />NPS developments on adjacent BLM lands (e.g. parking <br />areas, toilets, picnic areas, etc.) will be considered <br />with an emphasis on the enhancement and protection of BLM <br />cultural resources and recreational values. <br />A no surface occupancy stipulation will be imposed on oil <br />and gas leases within one-fourth mile surrounding Hack- <br />becry/Holly House Group. <br />Access roads on public land near Hovenweep Ruin groups <br />will regain primitive to provide cultural resources <br />protection from heavy uncontrolled visitation. <br />Coordination with the National Park Service on a regular <br />basis will address any problems or opportunities that may <br />_ arise regarding the management of Hovenweep and adjacent <br />• public lands. <br />Cooperative efforts between BLM and the NPS Stabilization <br />Unit at Mesa Verde and BL"1 patrol rangers and NPS rangers <br />will continue. <br />The following table itemizes critical (or priority) opportunities <br />to protect, enhance and develop cultural resources within the ACEC <br />area. Projects are to be impleaented as interim measures pending <br />CRMPs. <br />9 <br />
