Areas and sites that are unique in kind or complexity and <br />will enhance our management goals may be ldentified for <br />acquisition. <br />e, Interagency cooperation will be necessary to achieve many <br />of the goals of the ACEC plan, The National Park Service <br />(NPS), State of Colorado, Montezuma and Dolores Counties, <br />USFS, and BLM Utah are agencies that could provide support <br />and valuable input into the administration of the ACEC. <br />Opportunities for cooperation will be aggressively <br />explored to integrate management on a regional basis. <br />Development and Interpretation <br />a, Established recreation sites (e.g. Escalante and Lowry) <br />will be maintained as needed on a yearly basis. Main- <br />tenance needs include vegetation control, sign and <br />facility maintenance, and trash collection. <br />(1) Lowry Ruin <br />Interpretive signing will be done at Lowry to include <br />the painted kiva and explain the preservation pro- <br />blems [here, A detailed management plan for this <br />site will be completed within the framework of a <br />Cultural Resource Management Plan - priority 2 group. <br />Recent investigations sponsored by the National Park <br />Service are addressing the possibilities of expanding <br />the boundaries of the Lowry National Historic Land- <br />mark. The final report of these investigations is <br />pending. Future research efforts may focus on the <br />community center concept for Lowry, All activity, <br />maintenance and interpretation, will take into <br />account any impacts to cultural resource values. <br />(2) Escalante <br />The Cultural Resource Management Plan for the <br />Escalante Ruin Group is scheduled for completion in <br />1986-1987, Detailed implementation projects will be <br />discussed at that time. Interim measures call for <br />priority stabilization of the kiva with installation <br />of a drainage system; maintenance of ramadas and <br />trails, and installation of interpretive signing at <br />or near the Escalante ruin itself. All work at this <br />ruin group recreation area will be coordinated by the <br />Anasazi Heritage Center. The National Register <br />listing for this site will be expanded to include <br />affiliated sites nearby, <br />7 <br />
