Wildlife - Some decrease in natural habitat (of approximately eight <br />acres would occur with the construction of this alternative, Fencing <br />along the conveyor would cause a shift in migration to that area. <br />Increased stress to the wildlife might also occur during construction <br />of the road and partial conveyor. <br />9. Cultural/Historical Values - No known cultural or historical resources <br />occur within the area of the road and partial conveyor, <br />10. Visual Resource Impacts - A long-term impact, while the road and par- <br />' tial conveyor are in place, would occur from the straight line form of <br />the conveyor belt. The conveyor would also he a focal element and <br />cause a color contrast in different lighting and color situations. <br />11. Recreation Values - Some impact on hunting and hiking might occur with <br />the construction of this alternative, however, most of the area of this <br />alternative is private property. <br />12. Noise - Intermittent, moderate levels of low level noise might occur <br />with this alternative. A constant low level sound might occur during <br />the 24-hour operation of the conveyor helt. Warning horns might also <br />create a noise impact. <br />13. Special Oesiynated Areas - No known special designated areas exist <br />within the area of this alternative. <br />14. Land Use - A majority of the lands disturbed by this alternative are <br />undeve oped, pinyon-juniper areas. A small area near the train loadout <br />is agricultural. <br />15. Pro ert Value Im act - Though no specific numbers are available, it <br />• may he assumed that c ose properties may be impacted. <br />16. Safety - The conveyor belt would he fenced and access would be <br />restricted on the maintenance roads to the partial conveyor, Warning <br />horns would be installed and utilized for warning of a belt starting or <br />stopping. Acceleration and deceleration lanes would be designed and <br />constructed for the entrance to the truck dunp, <br />17. 0 erational Efficient and Reliabilit - Should a failure in the road <br />and partta conveyor a ternative occur, trucks would continue hauliny <br />to the train loadout area, The conveyor belt would he proposed to <br />operate during intervals in a 24-hour period. <br />1R. Construction Impacts - Approximately eight months would he required to <br />construct the road and partial conveyor, Some non-local labor would he <br />required for this construction. <br />19. Reclamation - The conveyor and truck dump facilities would he dis- <br />mantled and removed, and the area re-disturbed. Excavated sites would <br />be backfilled, topsoil redistributed, and the area revegetated, Ayri- <br />cultural crops would he restored in the appropriate areas of the allu- <br />vial valley floor. <br />20. Postminin Land Use and Value - It is believed that the rangeland or <br />ayricu tura use of the road and partial conveyor areas will he <br />restored to equal or better value. <br />Alternative H5 - Haul Road <br />1, Air Quality - Minimal increases in emissions will occur with the imple- <br />mentation of this alternative. <br />
