Geology and Minerals - Because no known mineable minerals exist, no <br />impact on mineral reserves will occur, <br />3. Soils - Approximately eight acres of soil surface will be disturbed <br />with the construction of this alternative, Topsoil would be salvaged <br />and stored. Some erosion of the soils would occur prior to revegeta- <br />tion. <br />4. Surface Water - Sedimentation of surface water might occur prior to <br />revegetation, <br />5. Groundwater - The hydrologic functions of the alluvial valley floor <br />would be restored following cessation of operations at the Orchard val- <br />ley Mine. <br />6. Vegetation - Approximately eight acres of disturbance would occur with <br />the construction of this alternative, creating landscape scars. These <br />scars will he lessened as vegetation is re-established. Erosion and <br />sedimentation will also be lessened with the re-establishment of vege- <br />tation. <br />7. Threatened and Endangered Plants, Animals and Fishes - No known <br />threatened or endangered pants, anima s, or fishes exist within the <br />area of the haul road. No eagles' nests occur. <br />8. Wildlife - A decrease in natural habitat of approximately eight acres <br />woad occur with the construction of the haul road. Impacts due to <br />highway mortality might also occur. Llhere the haul road is fenced or <br />where sound walls are constructed, a shift in wildlife movement would <br />occur. <br />9. Cultural/Historical Values - No known cultural or historical values <br />exist within the area of this alternative. <br />10. Visual Resource Management - A low profile impact would occur with the <br />construction of the haul road. Landscape scars would be prevalent <br />prior to revegetation, Should an overpass be constructed, this would <br />create a focal element. <br />11. Recreational Values - The majority of the haul road area is private <br />property. Little or no impact to recreation values such as hunting or <br />hiking would occur, <br />12. Noise - Intermittent, moderate levels of noise would occur with the <br />trucking on the haul road. <br />13. Special Designated Areas - No known special designated areas, such as <br />wilderness areas, exist within the area of the haul road, <br />14. Land Use - The area of the haul road is undeveloped pinyon-juniper. A <br />sma area near the train load out is agricultural lands. <br />15. Property Value Impact - Though no numbers are available, it may he <br />assumed that closer properties may be impacted. <br />16. Sam fety - The haul road will be signed and marked according to State <br />Highway specifications. No stopping would be necessary at the Farmer's <br />Mine Road with the construction of an overpass. <br />17, 0 erational Efficient and Reliabilit - During had weather and <br />hazardous road conditions, trucking wou d he stopped, This alternative <br />would be operated for sixteen hours a day. <br />18. Construction Impacts - Approximately seven and one-half months con- <br />struction time would be required. Local labor could be utilized for <br />the majority of this construction, <br />
