Public Meeting Summary <br />Wednesday, May 4, 1983 <br />Page three <br />Alternative p4 - Haul Road and Partial Conveyor <br />The road would be designed based on Department of Highways recommendations <br />and Colorado P+ined Land Reclamation Division specifications. The road would <br />have 12 ft, lanes and 2 ft, shoulders. The truck dump and road loop would <br />be located off Steven's Gulch Road near CWI's power substation, on what is <br />now Kendall property. Trucks would have a ?300 ft, round trip from the <br />Orchard Valley Mine through the truck dump and back up to the Mine. The <br />conveyor would transport the coal from the truck dump to the silo area. The <br />conveyor would be constructed in a trench from the truck dump site and go <br />under Farmer's Mine Road, over Fire Mountain Canal, and then run on-grade to <br />State Highway 133. The conveyor would be fully enclosed to pass over State <br />Hiyhway 133. The conveyor would he the same description as the full con- <br />veyor, 42-inch wide belt, and approximately 3,250 ft, long. It would he <br />desiyned to carry 600 tons an hour. <br />Typical road maintenance would occur on the truck dump access road and <br />Steven's Gulch Road. The conveyor would have an access road for maintenance <br />and safety checks. Periodic maintenance would also occur. The truck dump <br />and belt would be run in intervals during a ?4-hour period. Warning horns <br />would be used alony the conveyor. Reclamation of the road would he to <br />remove road paving and roadbeds. Cuts and fills would be returned to <br />approximate original contour, topsoil redistributed, and the area revegeta- <br />ted, <br />• Comments, Questions, and Responses <br />Question: Could multiple unit trucks be used for this alternative? <br />Response: Yes, multiple unit trucks could be used on Steven's Gulch Road. <br />Question: How would trucks enter and leave Steven's Gulch Road to the truck <br />dump area? <br />Response: Channellzed intersections with appropriate acceleration and <br />deceleration lanes would he constructed on Steven's Gulch Road. <br />Question: Would there be breaks in the fenceline along the conveyor? <br />Response: Crossings for deer would be constructed along the fenceline, <br />Alternative k5 - Haul Road <br />The road would be designed with Colorado Department of Highway recommenda- <br />tions and Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division specifications, The road <br />would have 12 ft, lanes, 2 ft, shoulders, and would facilitate multiple unit <br />trucks, The road is approximately 4,500 ft, long. The road starts at <br />approximately the location of the CWI power substation. It would he con- <br />structed on CWI property down to an at-grade intersection with the Farmer's <br />Mine Road. For safety purposes, approximately two acres could he purchased <br />from the Edwards to reduce the grade of the haul road at the at-yrade inter- <br />section with Farmer's Mine Road, Another alternative of the haul road would <br />
