Public Meeting Summary Wednesday, May 4, 1983 Page Lwo Alternative #2 - Aerial Tramway The aerial tramway is a high technology system similar to a ski lift opera- tion. The construction basically consists of a steel tower and a continuous wire rope with containers attached to the wire rope, The tramway would fol- low the same route as the full conveyor and is also designed for 600 tons an huur, A loading station would be located at the Orchard Valley Mine and an unloading station at the train loadout area, Roads would he constructed to the towers for maintenance. The aerial tramway would be operated in inter- vals during a 24-hour period, The steel tower bases would he fenced, Reclamation of the aerial tramway would be to remove the structure, remove tine foundations, remove the roads, and restore the cuts and fills to the approximate original contour, Topsoil would be redistributed and the area reveyetated, The maximum width between towers would be 1,000 ft, Comments, Ouestions, and Responses question: Would the aerial tramway make more noise than a conveyor belt? Alternative #3 - Pneumatic Caosule Pioeline • This alternative is an air-powered pipeline. Capsules of material are forced up and down the pipeline by differential air pressures. This alter- native was suggested for analysis by the Bureau of Land Management. Designs are being prepared for CWI by a company called TUBEXPRESS Systems, Inc. The pipeline is basically a welded steel pipeline for loaded capsules. Capsules would be brought back up to the Orchard Valley Mine in a return pipeline. The pipeline would he designed to move 600 tons an hour at intervals during a 24-hour day. The pipeline would be constructed in a trench and backfilled along most of its length, Because bends could be made in the pipeline, it would not have to be run straight from the Orchard Val- ley Mine to Lhe train loadout. The route of the pipeline would basically be along the powerline right-of-way. A loading station would be located at the Orchard Valley Mine and an unloading station at the train loadout area, The capsules would be turned over at the unloading station for unloading, Comments, Questions, and Responses Question: Would another tube be utilized as a hack-up system?
