Reclamation of Sediment Control Structures
Sediment control structures at the facilities area and along the haul road remained in
place at the request of the Division and the surface landowner at the time of bond
release. Remaining sediment control structures at the former pit area include three
sediment ponds, attendant collection ditches, and two sediment traps. The surface
landowner has expressed a desire to keep the three sediment ponds in place for use in
his ranching and commercial operations. These sediment control structures will remain
in place. for the use of the surface landowner in support of his commercial operations
after bond and liability release. The Northwest Sediment trap does not exist in the
configuration originally permitted (for a discussion see page 301a). At this time Sun
Coal Company does not anticipate the need for further reclamation at the NW sediment
trap, as the configuration is consistent with water control structures approved and left
in place on the haul road. The Southeast sediment trap functioned as designed and
upon inspection in 1995, had accumulated sediment and revegetated itself, so as to be
nearly indistinguishable from the surrounding area.
Revegetation -Reclaimed Mine Area
• The regraded mine area revegetation plan was designed to encourage use of the area by
both wildlife and livestock. Four categories of landforms were identified for the
regraded area, and each was planted with a specific blend of plant materials. Map 20
illustrates the approximate boundaries of each land type and the revegetarion categories
within the regraded land area. The four land types were identified as (1) Swale, (2)
Bench, (3) Upland, and (4) Steep Upland.

11'fid-Term Review -320- Revised 4196
