I have enclosed a copy of your map for your reference. You may wish
to use it in order to make the necessary modifications to the map.
Exhibit D
1. Wildlife
Please provide the statement from the Colorado Division of Wildlife
that discusses the potential impacts of this operation and incor-
porates their suggestions concerning the reclamation of the pit.
This is needed before the Board can consider the application.
J 2. Water Resources
1. Will there be any water used in future in this operation (for
activities such as crushing and/or dust control, for example)? If
water will be used, what will be its source?
2. Will [he pit be totally dry in reclamation?
Exhibit E
1. How is the bottom of the pit to be reclaimed? During my inspection,
I did not notice enough stockpiled topsoil to adequately cover all sides
~ and the bottom of the pit during revegetation. Both the sides and the
bottom of the pit will need to be reclaimed with a vegetative cover.
Please clarify the revegetation plans in this regard.
2. What is the estimated depth of topsoil to be used in reclamation?
3. Although the Soil Conservation Service advises that the slopes that
are already 3:1 may need no further treatment, please be advised that the
release of your revegetation responsibility will depend upon adequate
revegetation of all of the pit. Some of these old 3:1 slopes may need
some broadcast seeding of the recommended seeding mix, especially in
conspicuous bare spots.
4. In general, I agree with the revegetation seeding mixture suggested by
r the Soil Conservation Service. However, given the severe nature of the
Lam{ V site I would recommend the addition of a legume such as Yellow sweetclover
at a drilled rate of 0.5 lbs. pure live seed per acre. I further suggest
that the seeding rates for the other three species are drilled rates
and should be doubled if the seed is broadcast.
Exhibit H
J In order for a permit to be issued by our Division for a mining operation,
the operation must be properly bonded for reclamation.
