Parcel D:
1. Access to this parcel was also limited by fences. The
property appears to be mostly alfalfa or grass pasture,
irrigated cropland, and areas of Cottonwood and willow
wildlife habitat adjacent to the river similar to Parcel A.
Tree removal should be avoided if possible, especially the
dense stands closest to the Platte River which provide the
best wildlife habitat. The value of this habitat could be
improved by planting Cottonwood and willow saplings to
improve the age and height diversity of the stand.
2. Chances are high that the same weeds observed in Parcel B
will also be present in Parcel D since both abut the river.
Unfortunately the existing fences prevented us from
establishing whether this was the case. If there are
noxious weeds present in any quantity they must be
controlled prior to any revegetation efforts.
3. Since this land is to become the future Cooley Lake, all
that is required is to grade and revegetate the disturbed
area surrounding the lake. The side slopes above water
should not exceed 3 feet horizontal to one foot vertical.
Graded slopes can then be reseeded using the mix of grasses
provided for Parcel A.
Please call me if you have any questions regarding these
recommendations. I will be away from the office until December
28 but will check in periodically for my messages.
Sincerely,
'~~~~~~%~c~~
Andrea Leonard
Soil Conservationist
11
