DIMENSIONS OF OPERATION AND DISTURBANCES: This operation permit
includes 5 . 6 acres of land. Within that area there is Et total .of /
' 3 . 2 acres of disturbed land. Most of that disturbed land is under p
current utilization with the sawmill operation. Essentially only
the western 1 to 2 acres of the currently disturbed land is
involved in gravel mining.
METHOD OF OPERATION:
REMOVAL OF EXISTING VEGETATION: Where grass is the dominant
vegetation, the vegetation will be stripped along with the soil .
Where trees form the dominant vegetation, the trees will be removed
' from the site prior to stripping any salvageable soil .
SOIL SALVAGE METHODS : As indicated in Exhibit B, very little
soil exists on this site, even where the soil is good. The soil is
' thin to non-existent and therefore salvage will be limited. to those
locations where soil does occur to salvageable depth.
Salvageable soil, for this site , is considered any soil that v
is dark in color and has a depth of two inches or more before the
color of the soil changes to essentially match that of the gravel
being mined.
When the soil is salvaged it will be pushed in a direction
such that it will expose the underlying gravels . This will result
in a windrowed type of stockpiling around the perimeter of the
mining area. Because the volume of soil to be salvaged is so
small , the windrows will be quite small . Approximate topsoil
' stockpile locations are shown on the mining plan map.
No salvaged topsoil will be .sold as a gravel product: or as a '
topsoil source.
For an explanation of how this soil will be protected from
erosion, please refer to the Topsoiling section in the reclamation
' plan.'
v1 OVERBURDEN: There is no overburden, other than the soil which ?p
Chas been discussed above.
REMOVAL OF GRAVELS :
' EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: This gravel is mined using a
dozer, a front end loader and trucks to haul it away.
METHOD OF EXTRACTION: After stripping the soil, the
gravel is pushed with a small dozer toward the location where the
gravel is loaded on trucks. At the loading location, the front end
loader scoops up the gravel and dumps it into the truck . The
gravel is then hauled away for processing by the customer or direct
use as a pit run product .
' 2
