1
1 STOCKPILING: Because this is a pit run produce there is
no formal stockpiling of product . The stockpile, if it can be
' called that, is the location to which the dozer has pushed the
gravel .
PROCESSING OF GRAVELS : Other than some minor sorting and
crushing that occurs through pushing with a dozer and running over
the gravel with the front end loader and haul trucks , no processing
occurs on the site. The foregoing statement , however, only applies
' to the intent and desire of the permittee . In the event the county
or state highway department were to operate the site as a material
source for highway improvements , processing might occur on the
' site . In the event that did occur, the processing would
undoubtedly occur in the sawmill work area, possibly requiring the
sawmill to temporarily close . Acquiring any additional approvals
would be the responsibility of that party and not this operator .
' This information regarding possible future processing is provided
to notify the MLRB that such a possibility exists and to expedite
approval of that use if it happens .
MARKETING OF GRAVELS : The gravel mined at this site is a pit
run product . Any processing of the gravel (screening, crushing,
' etc . ) is the responsibility of the customer and does not presently
occur on this site . However, please see the discussion under
PROCESSING OF GRAVELS .
' MINING PROGRESS DIRECTIONS: The direction of mining will be west
to northwest from the existing pit . Mining northward or eastward
to any significant amount would not be possible because the
existing pit boundaries are so near the property boundaries . The
condition of the north central and northeastern portions of the pit
existed prior to the present operator acquiring the site . That is ,
mining to the property boundary, where such occurred, was not done
' by this operator.
INTEGRATION WITH EXISTING DISTURBANCES : Selling gravel is part of
' the business conducted on this site. This site is primarily a
sawmill operation and gravel mining is simply a means to add to the
product base and to expand the land available for the sawmill
operation. Therefore, there is a tight integration between the
gravel pit and the sawmill operation. The sawmill operation is in
the permit only because gravel distribution occurs through this
area on existing roadways and utilizes existing facilities . Other
' than that, this permit is not to be construed as a mining permit
that contains a sawmill operation but rather a sawmill associated
with a gravel pit that needs to be permitted under state law.
WATER SOURCES : At this time , water is not needed to conduct this
operation. In the event water is needed for some purpose it will (J
be acquired from domestic sources . Furthermore, if •a future D
contract operator (e.g. highway department) needed water :it would
3
