fresh water pond is located above the main access panel, while
• sedimentation pond No. 4 is located entirely outside the proposed
~ mine plan area (shown on the maps in Appendix A). The fresh
water pond consists of an entirely excavated area and contains a
synthetic liner to prevent seepage below the pond. The
sedimentation pond consists of a partially excavated storage area
and an embankment which has a maximum height of slightly less
than 10 feet, as measured from the bottom of the channel to the
bottom of the spillway.
Design of the sedimentation pond and other related surface
water control structures are contained in the September 13, 1982
Rocky Mountain Geotechnical report, titled "Redesign of Surface
Water Control Structures - Dorchester No. 1 Mine". A copy of
this report is included in Attachment A of the permit application
(3/83). Impacts to the sedimentation pond and fresh water pond
are presented in Section 2.0.
1.1.7 Power Lines. Substations and City of Florence Water Line
The power lines and power substations 1 and 2, controlled by
Southern Colorado Power, are located primarily in the area of the
main access portals. Additional lines travel along Road 115.
Locations of the power lines and power substations 1 and 2 are
shown on the maps included in Appendix A.
The City of Florence water line in this area consists of an
old clay pipeline which crosses the western portion of the permit
area. The source of the water is Newlin Creek. The pipeline is
utilized only as a source of supplemental water during periods of
. high demand. (Per Comm. Florence City Manager 2/3/83). The
location of the diversion point on Newlin Creek is located
7
