Minerals, Inc. plans to restore the areas that are shown on the
current Land Use Map No. 3 as having been disturbed by previous
surface and underground mining operations to a rangeland and
wildlife habitat land use. Therefore, the proposed post-mining
land use is consistent with the historical land use on lands within
the permit area. The consideration of rangeland and wildlife as a
post-mining land use is discussed in Section 2.04.3. Its limitations
on changing to an alternative land use are also discussed in that
section.
A management plan will be implemented upon ascertaining that the
revegetated stands are capable of supporting grazing and other
wildlife habitat use.
The productivity information collected each year as required by
4.15.7 and 4.15.11 of the Rules and Regulations will be utilized in
• determining a proper stocking rate when the area is grazed.
Considerations for wildlife use of these same areas will be taken
into account when determining the proper stocking rate. The Soil
Conservation Service normal practices within this locale will be
followed during the management of the reclaimed areas. Extra care
will be taken to ensure that overgrazing and subsequent erosion
and loss of vegetation will not result. Proper stocking will be
determined based on the amount of available foliage and good
management practices for this area of the State of Colorado.
The proposed grazing system is consistent with existing land use
trends within the area.
GEC Minerals, Inc. has obtained a written authorization from the
surface owner which is consistent with the proposed post-mining
land use. A copy of the authorization from the surface owner is
located in Exhibit 7, Surface Owner Authorization.
•
2.05-33
