GEC Minerals, Inc. is dedicated to improvement of these mined
areas, which it plans to mine, to return them to a rangeland and
wildlife habitat area. At best this may be difficult to attain
since substantial disturbance has occurred resulting in loss of
topsoil and subsoil materials and significant changes in the
original ground water regime. Significant effects caused by subsidence
of the abandoned underground mines, lack of exact locations of
these mines, and lack of data describing the original hydrologic
baseline make it difficult to determine the impact of GEC Minerals,
Inc. mining operation and the potential successfullness of its
reclamation program in general. However, the long term appearance
and usefulness of the mine plan area will be substantially improved
over the existing abandoned mine spoils, ungraded terrain and
unvegetated high erosional areas.
To attain these reclamation goals, a detailed reclamation plan
• which GEC Minerals, Inc. is implementing is described below. GEC
Minerals, Inc. utilizes the following mining sequence once mining
conditions have been established.
• Clearing and Grubbing of All Trees and Brush
In the Mine Area
• Removal of Topsoil and Subsoil
• Removal of Overburden
• Recovery of Coal Resources
• Backfilling, Grading and Re-Contouring of the
Surface to its Approximate Original Contour
• Re-Establishment of Surface Drainage Patterns
• Revegetation and Restoration of the Affected
Land to a Rangeland or Wildlife Habitat Land
Use.

2.05-22
