Coal Processing Waste and Non-Coal Processing Waste. GEC Minerals,
Inc. does not plan to produce coal processing waste or non-coal
processing waste during its mine activities. Current coal handling
facilities are only provided to size and load the coal into highway
haulage units for transportation to existing markets in the surround-
ing area. However, a coal processing waste dump exists near the
tipple area and is noted as the refuse pit. This processing waste
resulted from operations prior to August 3, 1977. GEC Minerals,
Inc. plans to cover the coal processing waste with non-toxic
material from the area. The area will be subsequently revegetated
to minimize wind and water erosion.
Underground Development Waste. GEC Minerals, Inc. does not anticipate
mining by underground methods and therefore does not plan to have
any underground development waste.
• 2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
The objective of GEC Minerals, Inc. reclamation plan is to restore
the mined area to a land use cabability which is equal to or better
than that which currently exists. The area which GEC Minerals,
Inc. is currently mining has been subject to numerous underground
and surface mining activities during the past 50 to 60 years. As
can be seen on the Existing Structures Map No. 21 for the mine
area, numerous underground mines are present. All of these mines
within the mine plan area have been abandoned. In addition,
Dorchester Colomine Coal is currently actively, by underground
methods, mining adjacent to GEC Minerals, Inc. mine plan area.
Surface activities within the mine plan area have consisted of
surface mining along the existing drainage channels and mining
shallow cover coal near the outcrops throughout the area that GEC
Minerals, Inc. plans to mine. As can be noted on the Land Use Map
No. 3, prepared from Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation
Service information, substantial areas adjacent to the GEC Minerals,
• Inc. operations have been utilized by mining in the past. There-
fore, productivity and current land use capability is very poor.
2.05-21
